SOUTH HAVEN (WKZO) -- Officials have been studying ways to stabilize a sand dune in Van Buren County that's damaged some homes. The dune is located on the shore of Lake Michigan just south of South Haven at Syndicate Park, and MLive reports that it's swallowed two homes so far.
The Van Buren County Board of Commissioners has been told that it would cost about 270 thousand dollars to stabilize the dune by adding a couple of trails. It's also been told that more vegetation and snow fences could help prevent the dune from additional drifting.
The county will try to get a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to cover most of the cost of the stabilization plan. A hearing on the matter is set for March 24th at 3:45 PM.
