COVERT (WKZO) -- They are generating power again at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Covert after a 56-day long planned shut down for refueling and repairs.
They found cracks and deterioration in 17 of the 45 units that lift and lower the control rods in and out of the reactor.
One had already been replaced during the last refueling. They have now replaced all 45 of the housings with one of a new design using different materials.
Over a thousand workers who don’t normally work at the plant were brought in for the refueling, inspections and repairs.
They completed over 85-hundred work activities, under the supervision of NRC inspectors assigned to keep a watch on work done at the troubled plant.
