INDIANAPOLIS (WKZO) -- Michigan State has taken their intensity up to another level as tournament play has begun.
With most of their starters healthy for the first time in a long time, they swept through the Big Ten Tourney.
Sunday, behind Adreian Payne's 18 points and nine rebounds, the 22nd-ranked Spartans pounded the eighth-ranked Wolverines, 69-55, to win the in the Big Ten Tournament final.
Michigan State (26-8) claimed its fourth Big Ten tourney title and second in three years despite shooting just 2-of-17 from 3-point range.
The rough outside shooting display was offset by a big advantage down low, as the Spartans owned a 38-28 edge on the glass while also receiving 15 points apiece from Branden Dawson and Gary Harris.
Michigan (25-8) was riding a seven-game winning streak coming in and took both regular-season meetings from the Spartans, but the Wolverines shot just 31.5 percent from the floor.
