KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- It will be one of the races they will be watching statewide in this fall’s election. Senator Tonya Schuitmaker’s current district, which includes Kalamazoo, has been redrawn and she no longer lives in the new 20th, leaving the seat wide open.
The MIRS news agency says the race to replace her is toss-up between Kalamazoo Democrat Sean McCann and Portage Republican Margaret O’Brien.
MIRS says its number one in their list of the ten Senate Districts that could flip from one party to the other, although they say the district is evenly split between republican and democratic voters.
As of the last reporting period, McCann and O’Brien also had among the largest campaign war chests of any senate candidates in the state.
It will be a battle.
