GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) -- Getting underway in Grand Rapids this week, it's the annual Gilda's Laugh Fest, and the event this year will be making an attempt at a world record. Laugh Fest President Wendy Wigger says they're aiming to set a record for the most people in one place wearing sunglasses in the dark. They need to beat a record set in 2012 by Chicago, with 1,642 participants. Wigger says they'll provide you with the sunglasses if you show up Thursday night by 7:15 at Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids.
"We will provide the shades for you, so don't worry about bringing your own sunglasses," Wigger told WKZO. "You will wind up with a great momento. They are black and yellow sunglasses with smiles on the lense. They're not sunglasses that you will want to drive in, but they are a really fun set of sunglasses, and we've got plenty of those for everybody who comes out."
People will start to gather for the world record attempt at 5:30 PM. There will also be some preview events of opening night on Thursday after the world record attempt, as comedians from all over the country will be coming into town for Laugh Fest performances through March 16th.
