PORTAGE (WKZO) -- Police officers in Portage have approved a new three year contract with the city. The new contract has already been approved by the city council. It includes wage increases and some signing bonuses for new officers. According to MLive, they'll get a signing bonus of one point five percent, then a raise of one-point-75 percent in their second year, and a third year raise of one percent. The officers will also have more input on safety vest design and have to pay a little more in copays for insurance. The police union approved the plan this week.
