CLEVELAND (WKZO) -- Detroit, powered up from their last two victories over Cleveland, took control of Sunday's game immediately, with a Miguel Cabrera homer just minutes in. By the bottom of the 5th, the team had a 9-run lead, and Max Scherzer had pitched four shutout innings.
Cabrera, in addition to the home run, drove in another two, and the game also saw doubles from J.D. Martinez and Nick Castellanos in rapid succession. Most of this occured in the 5th, which was a very strong inning for Detroit.
Even after the first four scoreless innings, Max Scherzer (9-3) only gave up one run on six hits over six innings total. Cleveland attempted to catch up in the 9th when Michael Brantley drove in two right after Asdrubal Cabrera's single, but they couldn't match Detroit's 10 runs by that point.
The Tigers take the day off tomorrow, but return to 590 WKZO on Tuesday to begin a series hosted by the Rangers. Broadcast time for game one is set for 7:40 PM.
