Cleveland (WKZO) -- The Tigers held off the Indians to win the first game of their three game weekend series in Cleveland. J.D. Martinez’s three-run homer and a two run shot by Victor Martinez was the difference as the Detroit Tigers held on to win 6-4 on Friday night.
Cleveland was down 5-0 when they came charging back against Detroit reliever Ian Krol in the eighth inning on homers by Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana to close the gap to one run.
Closer Joe Nathan gave up a single in the ninth inning but struck out Michael Bourn to get his 15th save.
Rick Porcello (9-4) picked up the win, just his second in his last six starts.
Justin Verlander will take the mound Saturday Afternoon as he tries to end his personal three game losing skid at Progressive Field.
