Legislation would make it easier to see a physical therapist

by

LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan is the last state in the nation to require a prescription or a doctor’s referral to consult with a physical therapist, but that’s about to change.

Some of the bills passed this week in the flurry of legislation that cleared the house was a measure that would lift that requirement.

Sponsor Margaret O’Brien of Portage says its good news for the therapists and anyone who needs one.

She says she has been working for three years to get the restriction taken off the books.

O’Brien says it should cut wait times for people wanting to see a physical therapist and keep graduates in the field from moving out of state.
