Detroit, MI (WKZO) -- Missing out on a sweep of Boston, the Tigers were forced to settle with a series win after tonight's 5-3 loss to the team.
It was a relatively low-scoring game, Detroit's only runs coming from two Eugenio Suarez singles and Victor Martinez's single in the 4th, and Anibal Sanchez let a couple runs slip by before being relieved by a string of pitchers, but the Tigers managed to get a one-run lead by the bottom of the 7th.
That lead quickly disappeared in the 9th, when Boston's David Ortiz hit a three-run homer off of Joba Chamberlain's pitch. The Red Sox also got themselves out of a five-game skid in the process.
The series marks the final meeting of the two teams in regular season play, but the Tigers start a new road series tomorrow night against the White Sox. Broadcast time is set for 7:45 PM on 590 WKZO.
