Tigers losing streak at five after Blue Jays complete sweep 7-3.

Detroit, MI (WKZO) – The Detroit Tigers have now lost five consecutive games after falling to the Toronto Blue Jays 7-3 completing the three game series sweep.

The Blue Jays blasted three home runs en route to their 14th win in their last 16 games, including two off Tigers’ starter Justin Verlander in the sixth inning. Juan Francisco and Brett Lawrie each went deep during the inning giving the Jays a 6-3 lead after starting the inning tied at three. Melky Cabrera also went yard in the ninth for the Jays final run.

Verlander (6-5) lasted seven innings, striking out four and walking four while allowing eight hits and six runs, five of them earned.

The Tigers’ bats could only muster up three runs off of Jays’ starter J.A. Haap who went 6.1 innings. Haap (5-3) gave up seven hits and two walks and struck out two.

Ian Kinsler had two hits and two RBIs. His RBI triple in the triple in the third gave the Tigers an early 1-0 lead and he later scored on a sac fly from Torii Hunter doubling the lead to 2-0. In the fifth, Kinsler grounded out but drove in Alex Avila from third tying the game at three.  

The Tigers continue their home stand on Friday night as they start a three game series with the Boston Red Sox. Drew Smyly (2-4, 4.10 ERA) takes the mound for Detroit in the opener and will be faced against Rubby De La Rosa (1-0, 7IP 0 ER).
