KALAMAZOO (WKZO)-- Michigan Works is the agency that you may have to depend on to get a job if you lose the one you have in West Michigan, and right now its taking big cuts.
Thaty’s why they are merging with the neighbors to avoid cutting services. Michigan Works helps the unemployed find jobs and employers find qualified workers.
Director Ben Damerow says the plan is to merge the Kalamazoo/St. Joseph County operation, with the already combined Calhoun and Branch County offices.
The Upjohn Institute already runs the Kalamazoo operation, and will take over Calhoun and Branch Counties next month. Then it will become just a function to merge them.
He says funding for Michigan Works has been cut by 50% since 2009.
