BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- A Battle Creek man who was a fugitive for a week after he allegedly gunned down the mother of his child outside a party on Kendall Street last weekend, is now in custody and awaiting arraignment for her murder.
Police say 27-year-old Richard Bozell was arguing with Tianna Hunt and left the party. They believe he returned with a gun and shot her once in the abdomen as she was running away from him.
She lingered in critical condition at Bronson Hospital’s Critical Trauma Unit in Kalamazoo, never regaining consciousness.
She was taken off life support on Friday and died on Saturday.
At about the same time she was taking her last breaths, Battle Creek Police were moving in on an apartment on Laura Lane Saturday night where they had been tipped off that Bozell was hiding.
He was taken into custody without incident, and is expected to be formally charged with open murder and felony gun charges on Monday.
