DETROIT (WKZO)-- Principal photography for the new Batman movie is underway in the Detroit area.
Warner Brothers is calling it “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” and your tax dollars are helping foot the bill.
The producers won a 35-million dollar incentive grant from the Michigan Film Office to bring the film's production to Michigan to create jobs and infuse money into the state’s economy.
Right now the future of the film incentive grant program is once again being debated in Lansing.
Some in the Legislature want to cut the 50-million dollar annual allocation in half.
It’s not clear if Detroit is playing the role of Gotham City or Metropolis, or both in the new film.
They aren’t the only super heroes who may be spotted in the Motor City this week.
Tuesday has been declared “Robocop Day” in Detroit.
They will unveil the new bronze statue of the fictional super-cop at Public Safety Headquarters and Robocop himself will throw out the first pitch at the Tigers Game.
It’s all timed to coincide with the release of the DVD of the latest Robocop reboot released in theatres earlier this year.
If any city could use a few superheroes right now, it’s Detroit, even if they are only pumping up the economy and cheering up the population.
