BEDFORD TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- Family and friends of a woman killed in the robbery of a Citgo station robbery in Calhoun County are calling for changes in how convenience stores that are open 24 hours a day operate. 27 year old Nichole Gates, a mother of three, was stabbed to death by 30 year old Shawn Pike in the robbery of the gas station where she worked in Bedford Township on Tuesday. Now, her parents have told TV3 that they think convenience stores like the Citgo shouldn't be allowed to have just one person on duty during the overnight shifts. That's a similar complaint made by friends and family of Jessica Heeringa, who disappeared from a gas station where she worked in Norton Shores last year. Bills have been introduced in the state legislature to make such changes, but they haven't gotten very far.
