MATTAWAN (WKZO) -- The Van Buren County Sheriffs Department says that it arrested a man Thursday night following the discover of meth ingredients in his vehicle during a traffic stop. The man, a 23 year old from Benton Harbor, was pulled over for a traffic infraction around 5:45 PM on I94 near County Road 653 in Antwerp Township. The sheriffs deputy who stopped him thought he smelled marijuana, and he was arrested for driving under the influence.
A search of the man's vehicle was then done, and over 1200 grams of psuedoephederine were found, all in individual packages ready to be sold for the making of meth, says the sheriffs department. Additionally, a passenger in the stopped vehicle, Richard James, from Benton Harbor, was found to be wanted on a warrant out of Berrien County, so he was arrested with no trouble. Possession of psuedoepherdine with the intent to distribute for the manufacturing of methamphetamine charges could additionally be brought against the driver.
