CALHOUN COUNTY (WKZO) -- Battle Creek Police say 30-year-old Shawn Pike is expected to be charged Thursday with the stabbing death of Citgo clerk Nichole Gates, a mother of three.
The 27-year-old victim was working the late shift at the Citgo on West Michigan at Hussey in Bedford Township.
Detective Sergeant Jim Martens says Pike walked in at midnight, demanded cash and stabbed Gates to death. Martens says Gates and Pike knew each other, and she could identify him. .
He says Pike took some cash, cigarettes and beer and then fled in Gate’s car.
TV-8 reports he texted an acquaintance admitting that he had just killed someone at a Citgo Station.
That acquaintance called police and three hours after her death after police began methodically checking each Citgo Station, police found Gate’s body.
About ten hours after her death, they found and arrested Pike.
They also arrested the 25-year-old from Battle Creek who was driving Pike around, as an accessory to murder after the fact.
