Dean of WMU Aviation School used to fly the Boeing 777

BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- A local aviation expert says the wreckage from Malaysian Flight 17 is consistant with a missile attack.

Dave Powell has flown the Boeing 777 as a commerical pilot and also served as a military pilot. He says the kind of damage and the pattern of debris on the groud suggests the plane was blown apart at high altitude.

Powell, The Dean of WMU’s Aviation School says the black boxes that record plane systems, and cockpit voices won’t have recorded much after the explosion, if anything.

He thinks it will reveal that the crew had no idea what was about to hit them.

The current location of the black boxes right now is not clear.

Powell says despite the carnage on the ground he doubts anyone on-board suffered, dying quickly from rapid decompression.
