AUSTIN, TEXAS (WKZO) -- If Mother Nature cooperates today, the WMU Sunseeker will finish qualifications, and make it into the American Solar Challenge on Monday.
Team spokesman Alec Carpenter says they put in 150-miles yesterday on the track at the Course of The Americas before they ran out of sunlight, but the car performed perfectly.
They need about 45 more miles to demonstrate to race organizers that their car will hold up when they begin the cross country race.
He says the threat today is thunderstorms forecast for the Austin area.
Solar cars need the sun to run.
Right now the only car that is ahead of them on the course and the only car that has qualified for the ASG belongs to the University of Michigan solar team.
