DETROIT (WKZO) -- Despite the ominous thunder and lightning, the Tigers had an anticlimactic end to their series against Tampa Bay, losing 7-3 in the final game.
Rick Porcello (11-5) had it rough, allowing three runs just minutes into the game, one of which was a homer from the Rays' Matt Joyce. Porcello's teammates tried to catch up, but all they could muster was a sacrifice fly from Miguel Cabrera (on which Rajai Davis scored) until Torii Hunter hit a homer in the bottom of the 7th.
Of course, by then Detroit was 5 runs behind Tampa Bay, and Rays starter All-Star David Price (8-7) showed no mercy, going the whole 9 innings allowing only three runs (just one out from a complete game). J.D. Martinez helped soften the blow a little, hitting a second homer for the team in the bottom of the 9th, but it was an instance of too little, too late.
The Tigers take Monday off to lick their wounds, then start a two-game series hosting the LA Dodgers on Tuesday night. Broadcast time is set for 6:40 PM on 590 WKZO.
