DETROIT (WKZO)- The Detroit Tigers fell behind in the 8th inning 4-1 and things looked gloomy until the 9th inning. The Detroit Tigers loaded the bases and then Rajai Davis hit a walk-off grand slam to give the Tigers a 5-4 victory.
Miguel Cabrea hit an home run in the 6th inning to tie the game at one. It was Cabrera's 14th home run of the season.
Anibal Sanchez didn't factor into the decision as he pitched seven innings giving up two runs on eight hits. Phi Coke got the Tigers out of the eighth inning without giving up another run and Blaine Hardy also pitched a scoreless 9th inning and picked up his first career major league win.
The Tigers honored their 1984 championship before the game.
The Tigers will look for another win tomorrow night. Rick Porcello (10-4 4.35 ERA) will start for the Tigers and the A's will send Brad Mills (1-0 4.35 ERA) to the mound. Broadcast time is at 6:40 pm on AM 590 WKZO.
