Over ten-thousand dollars in copper, tools stolen in Waverly Township

by

WAVERLY (WKZO) -- Van Buren County Sheriff's deputies are looking for suspects after ten-thousand dollars worth of electrical tools and equipment were stolen in Waverly Township. Investigators were called to a Newkirk Electric Association storage lot in the 31000-block of M-40 Friday morning where they found that two electrical utility trucks and a large storage trailer had been broken into and ransacked.

An initial investigation found that suspects on snowmobiles took Van Buren County's trail system to a small wooded area near the lot, where they then walked over and pried open locks on the trailer and two vehicles. Large spools of copper wire were among the items stolen.

Suspects are thought to have fled eastbound on Van Buren County Trail 59. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department.
