KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Its tough being a foster child, even if you have great foster parents, when you turn 18, you are cut loose by the state.

Without the family supports that many teens have when they graduate from high school, their futures are limited.

WMU has been striving to improve their prospects by creating the Center for Fostering Success, which seeks out Foster kids with potential, gives 160 of them scholarships and tracks their success.

The Program has just been recognized as one of the 15 best of its kind in the nation by the Center for the Study of Social Policy in Washington D.C.
