SOUTH HAVEN (WKZO) -- The activist group Beyond Nuclear will be holding a meeting in Van Buren County this week to talk about the Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert. The organization has been raising questions about the safety record of the Palisades plant for years, and now this Thursday, it'll have energy policy activist Chris Williams on hand to talk about how he helped to get a nuclear plant shut down in Vermont.
Beyond Nuclear's Kevin Kamps says that it's all part of the organization's efforts to shine some light on possible problems that Palisades has caused, and how it could be affecting southwest Michigan residents. He tells us that, due to the age of the facility, it's "falling apart at the seams," even leaking tritium into Lake Michigan last year when there was an equipment failure.
This week's meeting is called "Entergy Nuclear: Resisting a Rogue Corporation." It'll be at the South Haven campus of Lake Michigan College Thursday at 6:30 PM.
