Kalamazoo man is M.M.A. rising star

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- He's one of Kalamazoo's rising athletic stars, and in a sport that's quickly growing. 23 year old Darin "Longstroke" Luttrell is a mixed martial arts fights who recently won the lightweight championship for Knock Out Promotions at the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids.

At six foot six inches and 155 pounds, he's become known for his 81 inch reach as a fighter, which gives him an advantage. Luttrell trains five days a week, spends his spare time fishing, and says that the key to MMA is to know multiple kinds of fighting, and to never let your opponent sense that you're hurting.

Considering how rough MMA can be, Luttrell says that there's a lot of flexibility on when a fighter's next bout is scheduled. He tells us it just depends on how badly you were beaten up in your last fight. Luttrell started in the MMA last February, and has received numerous medals for sparring, forms, and breaking. His record is ten and one.
