Ticket scalping could soon be legal in Michigan

LANSING (WKZO) -- The Michigan House has approved a bill that would make ticket scalping legal.

Sponsor Tim Kelly says once you buy a ticket, you own it and you should be able to do what ever you want with it, even if that means making a profit from its sale.

He says it’s a free market approach.

West Michigan Democrat Brandon Dillon calls the bill a giveaway to internet sites like stub-hub, that buy up most of the tickets to an event using computer programs and then sells them for inflated prices.

The measure, which now heads for the State Senate, is opposed by Universities, concert venues, promoters and sports teams who say it will just add to the gouging that is already taking place on the internet.
