Portage Lawmaker says removing laws can be tough too

LANSING (WKZO) -- The State Senate has finally gotten around to removing a law on the books that required the sheriff to put any unlicensed dog they came across to death.

The House approved it last May and Sponsor Margaret O’Brien of Portage says it now heads to the Governor’s desk at long last.

It also required County Treasurers to compile a list of unlicensed dogs and deliver it to the State Agriculture agency.

It was on the books for 97-years but hadn’t been enforced for a very long time.
