More pothole fix-it money moving through the Michigan Legislature

LANSING, MI (WTVB) - The Michigan Senate has approved a supplemental measure that would increase road funding by $100-million to patch potholes and bail out road commissions and cities that have gone over budget plowing snow. House Speaker Jase Bolger says he wants to boost that to 215-million by using money saved from the Medicaid program.

Michigan Department of Transportation Director Kurt Steudel says he is predicting the worst pothole season in state history, and the relentlessly brutal winter weather is only one of the reasons. Ten years of deferred maintenance is the other. He says he is glad the state Legislature is talking about throwing more money into roads, because they really need the attention.
