HARTFORD (WKZO) -- A Watervliet man has been charged with assaulting several people in a home in the 58000-block of Springdale Drive in Hartford Township. Van Buren County Sheriff's deputies initially received a report of a domestic assault with gun shots fired just after 3:30 a.m. last Saturday and responded quickly, setting up a perimeter around the residence.
Deputies let into the residence by a victim held 24-year-old Richard Lamar Westberry II at gunpoint until it was determined there was no weapon involved in the incident. Westberry's 19-year-old sister and her 31-year-old boyfriend from Bangor, as well as his 25-year-old girlfriend from Watervliet all suffered facial injuries in the incident, but refused further treatment by responding medical personnel.
Westberry apparently entered the home uninvited, damaging property and assaulting the victims in the incident in which alcohol is said to be a factor. Westberry has since been charged with a range of assault and malicious destruction of property charges, as well as for violating parole in a previous domestic violence case.
