LANSING (WKZO) -- The ballot petition language for an initiative to raise the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour is now before the state Board of Canvassers. Organizers are awaiting approval before starting to collect just over 258-thousand valid signatures of registered voters to put the proposal on the November 4th ballot. They want to increase the minimum wage from $7.40 to $9.50 by January 2016 and tie future hikes to the cost of living based on figures from the Consumer Price Index.
