LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Michigan Corrections Department officials are promising a thorough investigation into the events that led to the Sunday night escape of convicted mass murderer Michael Elliott, who was on the loose for around 24 hours before being nabbed after a car chase in Northwest Indiana. State officials can’t act fast enough to satisfy residents of Ionia, where the maximum security prison is located.

Yesterday Elliot was charged with one count of car theft and ordered held on a million dollars bond in LaPorte County after he refused to waive extradition back to Michigan. That will delay the process. Indiana State Police Major John Boyd says they are anxious to get him out of their state and back to Michigan. Elliot shouted out to reporters as he was led to the court in chains that he didn't intend to hurt anyone, that he just never got a second chance.
