KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Staff and students are slowly beginning to return to Kalamazoo to prepare for the fall semester.
Many may not notice any difference but for smokers, a new campus ban will be in place. The only place they will be allowed on campus to smoke will be inside their own car.
Cari Robertson at the Sindecuse Health Center says no more crowds of smokers huddling at doorways straining to get a nicotine fix between classes.
She says the ban also applies to the new electric cigarettes.
WMU isn’t exactly a pioneer in all this. 14-hundred other colleges have already gone smokeless.
Both of Kalamazoo’s hospitals have had smoke free campuses for years.
Robertson says they are tapping all that accumulated experience to help guide them in their implementation of the new rules.
