KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The old terminal at the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport is apparently slated to meet the wrecker’s ball.
County Commissioner Mike seals says The Aeronautics Board made the decision after learning it would cost about 9-million to renovate the building for new uses and bring up to code.
Seals says there is another reason too. They made a deal with the FAA that if they built a new terminal, the old one would come down, and the FAA is holding them to it.
Most flyers won't mourn its passing. The old terminal was small, cramped, dark and did not offer many of the amenities that most modern terminals have.
He says the Aeronautics Authority will take bids soon on the demolition.
There had initially been talk of turning the old terminal into a welcome area or conference center but the discussions never went anywhere.
