KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The website NerdWallet.com has ranked Kalamazoo as one of the best cities in America to live when it comes to work-life balance. NerdWallet, a site that offers financial advice for the modern geek, ranked Kalamazoo number ten on its list. The site's Divya Raghavan says that it used some specific factors in making the determination.
"We included three variables to fine the cities with best work-life balance," Raghavan told WKZO. "We included hours worked per week, commute time, and affordability. We did those because we wanted to get cities where people weren't just working fewer hours because they couldn't find work, but we wanted places where people were working fewer hours but were still making enough to live on. They still had higher incomes in a city with a fairly low cost of living."
Raghavan says that many of the cities to make the list have strong university and healthcare presences. NerdWallet writes that Kalamazoo has a mean weekly work hours of 33.6, a median earning amount of 32,557 dollars per year, and an average commute of about 18 minutes. Coming in first on the list of cities where residents can expect the best work-life balance was Bloomington, Indiana. You can see the full list by following this link.
