Tigers bested by Blue Jays in 10th inning turnaround

TORONTO (WKZO) -- Detroit were looking good for a second straight win over Toronto all the way til the bottom of the 9th, when the Blue Jays pushed back for a 3-2 victory.

After six scoreless innings, Victor Martinez hit a double for Detroit's two (and only) runs, coming from Ian Kinsler and Miguel Cabrera. This, coupled with Max Scherzer's impressive strikeouts, made a second Detroit victory seem a sure thing, but then the other Cabrera--Toronto's Melky--doubled off one of his pitches half an inning later, closing the gap to one run.

From then til the 9th, Scherzer and Toronto's Marcus Stroman kept anymore runs from getting by. But, when Detroit put in reliever Joe Nathan (usually a safe bet) and he quickly allowed a single from Dioner Navarro, the teams found themselves tied, and went to a 10th inning.

Stroman's replacement, Aaron Loup, almost let Detroit regain the lead by walking Ezequiel Carrera (who was able to steal third after Don Kelly's sacrifice fly landed him on second) but the at-bat just didn't lead to any runs.

Then, all it took was Nolan Reimold's double in the bottom of the 10th for a Blue Jays victory. The Tigers still have a shot at winning the series 2-1, and Sunday's game holds the outcome. Broadcast time is set for 12:40 PM on 590 WKZO.
