DETROIT (WKZO) -- Anibal Sanchez pitched seven scoreless innings, and Victor Martinez drove in a three-run homer to give the Tigers a third straight win, 4-0, over Colorado on Sunday.
Martinez, having a long streak without a hit (going back to the 3rd of July), made up for it over the weekend with two three-run homers, on Saturday and Sunday. This time, however, it came a little earlier, in the bottom of the third, directly after Miguel Cabrera's single. That hit, which gave Rajai Davis a run, put Ian Kinsler and Cabrera in the position to score off Martinez's 379-foot drive.
That was it, though. Colorado's Jorge De La Rosa fought tooth-and-nail til the bottom of the 8th to keep Detroit from scoring anymore runs, and Anibal Sanchez (8-5) held the Rockies at bay until Joba Chamberlain and Joakim Soria took over in the 8th and 9th, respectively.
The win gave Detroit a sweep of the Rockies, their first three-game sweep since the home series against Oakland at the beginning of July. Next up, they take to the road for nine games, starting with four against the Yankees. Game one is on 590 WKZO Monday night at 6:40 PM.
