LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Starting May 1st, veterans in Michigan will be able to get a special designation on their drivers licenses. State Representative Nancy Jenkins, of Lenawee County, says that having a simple mark on drivers licenses as proof of having served will be a lot easier for Michigan veterans than what they have to do currently.
Right now, veterans have what’s called the DD214 forms, which includes all of their discharge information and also their social security number. It’s bulky and doesn’t include a photo and obviously includes sensitive information that if in the wrong hands could cause some problems so Jenkins says this is a good fix for veterans.
The veterans designation on drivers licenses could be used for official purposes, or for day to day things, like getting a discount in a restaurant that offers them to veterans. She proposed the new designation when a group of veterans suggested it to her.
