DETROIT (WKZO) -- Richard Ravitch, New York's former Lieutenant Governor, is signing on as an unpaid consultant in Detroit's bankruptcy.

Chosen on Friday by Judge Steven Rhodes, Ravitch says he doesn't know yet what sort of advice he'll offer in part because he doesn't know all of the questions the judge will ask him. His new book, "So Much to Do: A Full Life of Business, Politics and Confronting Fiscal Crises," is being published this week and offers some insight into his experience with politicians, Wall Street and labor unions.

In the book's final chapter Ravitch makes reference to Detroit saying, "The fiscal difficulties in states and localities are not just a series of individual crises but also a national problem that reflects a national history of promises made and obligations undertaken, often for the best of reasons, without the present resources to support them."
