LAWTON (WKZO) -- Lawton resident Jim Walters kicked off his campaign for state Senate over the weekend.
The Democratic candidate spoke to supporters in Allegan and Van Buren Counties, promising to focus on issues most important to the middle class and working families. Among the issues included are raising the minimum wage, supporting public education, and advocating for environmental stewardship. The 26th Michigan Senate District he hopes to represent includes Allegan and Van Buren Counties, as well as a portion of Kent County.
Walters is expected to face Republican state Senator Tonya Schuitmaker this November 4th.
