Gratz says challenging race wasn't goal

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- The woman whose lawsuit and ballot initiative led to the U.S. Supreme Court upholding Michigan's ban on using affirmative action in college admissions wasn't trying to challenge race.

Jennifer Gratz appeared on "Fox News Sunday" to defend the case, saying she sued because the University of Michigan had different admission standards for minorities compared to whites. She was rejected by the university in 1995 and sued. Gratz later led the effort to pass Proposal 2 in 2006 that banned colleges and universities in the state from using race as a factor in admissions.
