BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) --A Battle Creek man who was convicted of beating three-year-old Bailey Stenman to death has suffered another reversal in court.
A Calhoun County judge ruled that Leo Ackley deserved a new trial because his lawyer failed to provide competent representation during his original trial.
The prosecutor challenged that decision and now the Court of Appeals has upheld Ackley’s original conviction and sentence. He is serving a life term at the Oaks Correctional Facility.
No word if Ackley’s new lawyer plans to appeal the decision.
