KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The City of Kalamazoo’s annual Spring Hydrant Flushing program begins this weekend and will take just over a week to complete.
The Water system has been stressed this winter between freezing, buckling and breaking water mains and this will give the city a chance to flush out the sediments and make sure the hydrants, pumps, storage tanks and mains are working.
The water may look a little cloudy the day after the crews come through but it’s still safe. Run cold water in the tub until it clears.
You may want to avoid using it to do Laundry for a day or two after your area has been flushed, because it could discolor your clothing.
Most of the flushing will take place overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. so watch for crews and you may want to avoid the flowing water with your car. Some flushing will take place during the day.
