Local environmental group has unique Earth Day plans

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Yesterday we told you about the EPA’s plans to hold an open house next Tuesday on their four possible plans to clean up the Allied Paper dumpsite.

A local group with its own ideas and plans for the site off Alcott Street also has different plans for next Tuesday’s session, especially because it happens to be Earth Day.

Dr. Denise Keele, Chair of the Kalamazoo River Clean-up Coalition says they want to hear ideas from residents on uses for the site if it’s ever given a proper cleanup.

She says three of the four plans the EPA is considering would leave it a contaminated no-man’s land, ringed by security fencing and barbed wire.

Next Tuesday’s session begins at 6 at the Epic Center.
