KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Coming up soon in Kalamazoo, it's a summit of community organizations with an interest in improving the health of children. Trish Harrison, with the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo, says that 2014 Champions for Healthy Kids Summit will be held on Thursday, May first at the Western Michigan University Fetzer Center. There, a variety of sessions will be held on various aspects of children's health, and how it can be improved in Kalamazoo.
"It's about kids and families," Harrison told WKZO. "We're trying to get them healthier, trying to get them outside, to get them to eat better. So, it's for families, anybody in a school district, parents, churches, anyone who would be interested in helping kids get healthier."
The theme of this year's summit is Taking it Outside, dealing with how to get kids more interested in outdoor recreation. This year's Champions for Healthy Kids Summit is being sponsored by Kalamazoo Public Schools, Fifth Third Bank, the Kalamazoo Nature Center, and the YMCA.
