Runs came at a premium for the Tigers on Sunday as Detroit could not pull off the sweep of the Baltimore Orioles, falling in a 3-1 final.
The loss is the Tigers' first of 2014, dropping their record to 4-1. Baltimore improved its record to 2-4 with the win.
Justin Verlander had a pretty solid outing for Detroit despite earning his first loss of 2014, giving up two earned runs on five hits over eight innings while striking out three. Al Alburquerque gave up an earned run in an inning of relief.
Torii Hunter continued his strong start to the 2014 campaign, driving in the only run of the game for the Tigers on a solo home run, his third of the season. Aside from that home run, the Tigers had just two baserunners past first base.
Detroit has the day off on Monday before heading to California to start a west coast swing against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. Dan Dickerson and Jim Price will have the call beginning at 9:45 p.m. on 590 WKZO.
