KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- If all goes as scheduled, John Kovach will be sentenced today in Kalamazoo Circuit Court for shooting his wife to death.
It began with a fight over hot-dogs in their home on East Main in Comstock Township on June 17th.
The 42-year-old Kovach confessed in court when he pled guilty to second degree murder that he planned to kill himself that day. He says he got his gun out, and had it pointed in his mouth, when his wife Nancy angrily confronted him and called him a coward so he shot her instead.
They had both been drinking and arguing and he said he just snapped. Their children were home at the time this was taking place.
There was never any doubt. Kovach confessed when he called 9-1-1 that he had just shot his wife.
Under the plea agreement, Kovach will serve two years on a gun charge and then 18 to 30 years for second degree murder.
