GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) -- The flowers decorating the Calder sculpture in downtown Grand Rapids as part of ArtPrize will come down, but not today as originally scheduled.

Mayor George Heartwell's office is delaying the decommissioning of the work by David Dodde until after the artist's son, who has Down Syndrome, can see it on a school field trip.

The grandson of Alexander Calder, the artist who created the iconic sculpture that has become the city's logo, called the piece an "abomination."  The city will start removing the flower magnets on October 2nd.
