WASHINGTON (WKZO) -- The deadline is fast approaching for Congress to approve a federal spending plan in order to avoid a government shutdown, and it looks like the Tea Party wing of the Republican party could just be willing to let a shutdown happen. The problem here is the Affordable Care Act, which some of the Tea Partiers say should be defunded before any other government budgets are approved.
Democratic Senator Carl Levin says they're playing Russian Roulette with the government, telling us that there's practically no issue that some faction of Congress couldn't make simiolar threats about. He doesn't think that most Republicans are even on the side of the Tea Party, and believes the leadership is just cowtowing in order to avoid facing a primary fight from the Tea Party.
Levin also says another issue in Congress is raising the debt ceiling. He tells us that if Congress fails to do so, then the Tea Party is essentially allowing the US to become a deadbeat nation that doesn't pay its bills.
