KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- October will be Breast Health Month, and doctors are reminding women of the dangers of breast cancer, and the importance of getting regular mammograms. Doctor Nancy Kalinowski, with Bronson Center for Women, says that women can also try to assess their risk of breast cancer in advance of screenings, to be extra vigilant.
Doctor Kalinowski says a lot of it's in the genes, as there is a specific gene that can give you a pretty gooed idea of your chances of developing breast cancer. About ten percent of women who have breast cancer have the gene, but having the gene means an individual's riisk is about 85 percent.
Bronson has a website that women can use to gauge their risk of breast cancer. It's a test posted at www.LearnYourRisk.com .
