Kalamazoo Pre-school programs come together despite a summer of obstacles

There is a big element of parental involvement in Preschool

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- More kids are in Pre-school this morning in Kalamazoo County than ever, but it wasn’t easy between moving the Head Start program from county to K-Resa Control, dealing with federal cuts, and a decision by the state to double the size of their Great Start Program.

Stephanie Lemmer the Head Start Administrator for K-resa says they had all summer to recruit kids, but only 6 weeks to create a head start program from scratch.

She says it’s all been worthwhile.

She says they still have a few slots available.

Study after study shows that quality pre-school gives kids a big advantage as they begin their educational careers, and the hope is that more will be able to take advantage of the Promise when their time comes.
